PUBLIC NOTICE

From the Village of Alert Bay, ‘Namgis First NAtion and Whe-La-La-U Area Council

The following are the expectations given the changes due to the pandemic. We also encourage those visiting our island to follow the appropriate health behaviours to stay safe and keep others safe. If you do travel, you are encouraged to be as self-contained as possible with your provisions and accommodations.

Please note, Cormorant Island does have medical services but requires contact by phone prior to attendance at the hospital, and doctor offices. At May 31, 2020, the dental clinic services are still suspended and will be reopened once the appropriate protocols aligned with Work Safe BC have been established.

Given BC’s Restart Plan, recommendations of the public health officer and Work Safe BC, Cormorant Island businesses will be operating with protocols to protect their staff and the public. These restrictions may impair the authentic travel experience that one normally enjoys on our island. These current restrictions include:

  • A limited number of individuals in a business at a time
  • Lineups outside stores that include physical distancing
  • Services only being provided by appointment only or by electronic means only
  • Limited hours or days of operations
  • No access to public washrooms throughout the community
  • The Village of Alert Bay Campground will be restricted to self-contained units only and no tenting allowed
  • Restrictive areas on public transit such as BC Ferries
  • The postponement of our annual summer events to 2021

We encourage you to come to Cormorant Island in 2021 and celebrate at the following events:

  • June Sports – June 17 to 20, 2021
  • Alert Bay Artfest – July 24 and 25, 2021
  • Bay Days – July 24 and 25, 2021
