We have been a beehive buzzing with activity since we opened for our second season this May!

Thank you to all of our guests who have chosen to stay with us and especially to our repeat guests.

In June, we welcomed back the teams from Campbell River for the June Sports Soccer Tournament and had the pleasure of company of some contractors in town to renovate the Vancity Credit Union Branch Office as well as special consultants for services offered in Alert Bay. We enjoy becoming familiar with your preferences and needs.

We now have two new rooms to offer equipped with kitchenettes and are pet-friendly!!!! Being dog lovers ourselves, it has been our goal to develop these dedicated rooms. They are located on the lower, deck level in the garden with sunset views to the west. We call this level, the ‘Fathoms’ in keeping with our nautical theme and the individual rooms are #8 and 9. One is decorated with Octopi and the other Sea Stars.

We received the help and expertise and labour from several dear friends and my brother. We couldn’t have completed this project without these talented builders/workers. THANKS AGAIN, CREW!

The weather has been unseasonably dry and sunny since May, which we enjoy but know that this increases the fire risk in the beautiful forests surrounding us. Please be careful while out hiking and camping! Colourful flowers are in bloom and the blackberries are flowering. I enjoy watching the Rufous Hummingbirds visit our feeders.

The abundant wildlife in the area continues to mesmerize and entertain the numerous visitors who take the local tours. We heard that yesterday, the first resident pod of Orcas was seen and that means that the Chinook salmon are running and they have food. Guests have rave reviews of both of these local companies

Suggested 3 Day Itinerary in Alert Bay

Many of our visitors last year mentioned that they wished they had realized how much there is to do while on Cormorant Island and that they wanted to spend more time with us. To avoid this disappointment, we thought we’d share with you a suggested itinerary for a 3 day visit.

Day 1

Arrive by ferry from Port McNeill.

Walk down to the hotel and get established.

Enjoy a favorite beverage in the sun room or on the spacious deck.

Choose a place to have supper or purchase items to have your own barbeque on the deck.

Stroll around town. Check out the museum housed inside the library, the Art Loft (free art gallery) and the local scenery.

There is often a happy hour and live music at the Orca Inn across the street.

Day 2

Enjoy your pre-arranged tour to view the whales or grizzlies.

Upon your return, have a meal, rest and relax. Or hike on one of the local trails.

After supper, take in a spectacular sunset from your private balcony or on the deck.

Day 3

After a long and peaceful rest, walk down to the world class museum

If available (Thurs-Sat) participate in the cultural dance demonstration in the big house. Tickets available at the tourist center or the local coffee shop Culture Shock.

Collect sea glass as you walk along the beach.

Catch a later ferry back to Vancouver Island and continue your journey.

Additional Suggestions

If you have your own kayak or paddle board, you will want to spend some time doing that. There are no rentals available on the island (yet)

If you are a certified scuba diver, there is some of the best cold water diving here. This company is located in Port McNeill (where you catch the ferry)
